What is Den 1880?

Den 1880 is a dynamic coworking community where work comes to life. We offer an array of intentionally designed and furnished workspaces to meet a variety of needs. We have flexible work stations throughout the main floor, meeting rooms, dedicated desks, communal spaces and private offices for teams of all sizes to come together.

CLUB

For entrepreneurs, working professionals and community seekers interested in exploring working and connecting in a like-minded community. Our Club membership offers access to a variety of beautifully designed and functional common workspace areas along with access to additional services, amenities and programming.

RESIDENT

Enjoy your own dedicated desk to suit your style of working. Our Resident membership is for those looking for more privacy and their own desk space.  You will have your own dedicated desk with lockable storage and the ability to set up your monitor, leave belongings and enjoy your own sit-to-stand desk and high back genuine leather chair. Resident Desk members get access to all the tools you need to make your workspace functional and productive. Resident members also enjoy all of the beautifully designed coworking spaces as well as all of the additional services and amenities of the space. Resident members and receive 20% off of bookable meeting rooms.

TEAMS

Our Den Teams Membership provides 24/7 access to your own fully furnished office space with flexible lease terms and a private and secure space for you to get down to business. Experience the advantages of working in your own space while also enjoying all of the benefits of being in a like minded community, without the additional expenses and commitment terms of long term commercial lease.

Our Teams membership also offers you access to our beautifully designed common spaces and 20% off of meeting rooms along with the variety of amenities we offer.

Can I work at Den 1880 if I’m not a member?

No, you need to be a member to work at Den 1880 unless a member invites you as a guest. 

Can I do a trial day?

As part of your initial tour of the space, you will have the opportunity to work from Den after the tour concludes to help to give you an idea of what it’s like to work from here before you make any decisions. 

What are the hours at our locations?

Our regular business hours are staffed from 8:00AM to8:00PM Monday - Friday. Teams members can access Den outside of these hours using your access pass. We may be hosting a private event, in which case there may be guests in communal areas, but your private spaces will never be occupied by anyone but you or your team. 

How do I book a tour of a location?

Experience all that we offer by booking a tour. Our Operations and Community Manager will be pleased to take you through the space and answer any questions you may have. Feel free to stay after the tour and work from any of our coworking spaces to experience what it’s like to spend the day with us.

Can I choose when to start a membership?

Yes! You can start anytime, you will be billed on the first of the month. If you start mid month, your fees will be prorated.

Can my partner use my membership?

Only the membership holder can use the membership. 

Do I need my access pass to enter Den 1880?

You do need your access pass to enter. If you forgot your pass, please contact a member of our staff to help you.

What is our pet policy?

Well-behaved, trained, dogs are welcome in private offices. We have an office dog in the common space who will love to greet you. Pets will be welcomed in the space during other designated dates/times. 

Who are Den 1880 partners and where can I find them?

As part of the local community, Den 1880 has created strategic partnerships with some of our neighbouring businesses in the city. The Friends of Den program extends unique pricing to our membership base, creating access points throughout the city for members to enjoy.

How do I register my access pass?

You will receive a mobile access pass link to Brivo (our mobile access provider). If you would like to also have a physical key, please let us know. There is a $75 key deposit which will be refunded at the end of your term and the return of your key.

Billing

How do I view my invoice?

You can access your invoice in the Den 1880 app or member’s portal, in the invoice tab.

Does my membership automatically renew?

Club and Resident Memberships are month-to-month after the agreed upon term and are reviewed by the management team every quarter. Den Teams memberships are subject to a one year membership commitment.

Can I upgrade my membership?

You can upgrade your membership anytime depending on availability. For more information, contact your Community Manager.

Cancellations and terminations

After the agreement term is complete, Den 1880 requires 2 months of notice to close any membership agreement. To close a membership agreement, you need to notify your Community Manager so that your security deposit can be applied to the last month.

Community Guidelines

Zero tolerance policy at Den 1880

Den 1880 is committed to fostering a harassment-free workplace and membership club where all members, employees, and guests are treated with respect and dignity. We welcome people of all backgrounds and are LGBTQ+ friendly. We encourage everyone to be themselves. This is a space where sexist, racist, xenophobic, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, classist, or otherwise discriminatory language is not permitted. Any individual found to have harassed another individual will be subject to disciplinary action, including membership termination. This includes any individual who interferes with the resolution of a harassment complaint, retaliates against an individual for filing a harassment complaint, or files an unfounded harassment complaint intended to cause harm. Please report any issues to your Community Manager in person, via email or on the Ticketing System on the Den 1880 app.

Emails/Notifications

How do I opt-out of or into member emails or mobile notifications?

New members are automatically added to our email notices and mobile notifications. We do not recommend that members opt-out of our notices and notifications. This is our primary means of communicating events, updates, building notices, etc., with our membership base. Note: If you do wish to opt-out, select Unsubscribe at the bottom of our emails. If you unsubscribe by accident, you can resubscribe by clicking the same link and selecting “please add me back to this list”. 

Building/Space

Is there parking onsite?

Parking is located at the rear of the building, off of Albert St and Dupont St. W. Some spots are reserved for Teams members, and are marked with private parking signs. The remaining spots are available on a first come basis. Members can register their licence plate with a member of our reception team. There is plenty of additional parking also available in the lots located at The Waterloo Public Library Dupont parking lot and the Waterloo Town Square parking lot North.

Is there bike storage?

Indoor bike storage is available in the basement. To access the bike storage please use the door located to the right of the main doors in the parking lot. Use your Brivo access pass to enter the foyer and access the elevator to the basement (LL). Once you exit the elevator on the lower level, bike storage is located to the left. 

There are also bike racks located outside at the front, and rear of the building. 

Shoe Storage

Please bring indoor shoes or slippers to wear in Den 1880. We do not allow winter boots to be worn indoors. Shoe and boot storage is located at the back entrance. 

What do I do if I lose my access pass?

If you lose or misplace your mobile device, contact your Community Manager to receive a new link to re-install your door access.

​What do I do if I lose internet connection?

Contact your Community Manager or a community associate at the front desk.

Can I bring a desktop monitor?

Private Office and Resident Desk members may bring a desktop monitor. Permanent external monitors are not allowed in our common spaces.

Is there additional storage onsite?

There is additional storage offered onsite for a fee. Please see your Community Manager to discuss. 

What are Den 1880’s access hours?

All of our locations are staffed from 8AM to 8PM, Monday to Friday. d Teams members may access the space outside of these hours. The number of guests you can bring depends on your membership type; see your membership agreement for details. Clean up whatever space you occupy. Do not bring any outside alcohol or substances. Failure to follow these conditions may result in the termination of your membership.

What is Den 1880’s refrigerator policy?

You can use refrigerators to store your personal items. Communal condiments can be found in the centre fridge. The unit to the left of the three is a freezer. Refrigerators are cleaned out every Friday after 5PM. We’re not responsible for any items thrown out after this time.

Can I meet in common areas?

If you want to have a meeting, it’s best to book one of our boardrooms. Informal meetings are allowed in common areas or those not designated as a quiet space. Please be considerate of fellow community members working in the common areas and keep noise levels to a minimum.

How long can I stay in the phone booth areas?

Phone booths are first come, first served and should not be used for longer than 90 Minutes.

What are the audio rules at our locations?

You need to wear headphones in our common spaces and any area designated as a quiet space. Loud music is not allowed in office spaces.

Who do I contact if I’ve lost something?

If you or a guest misplace something, let the receptionist know right away or create a ticket on the Den 1880 app. We are not responsible for lost or stolen items. 

Can I order food deliveries to Den 1880?

Yes, members are allowed food deliveries. Please track your food delivery and meet your delivery driver when possible. Instruct the delivery driver to park in the back parking lot and request drop off at the back entrance to avoid traffic disruptions on Erb St. It is not the responsibility of Den 1880 staff to meet your food delivery driver. If the food delivery is not picked up within an hour, it may be disposed of.

Are there mail restrictions for different membership types?

Yes. Club and Mailbox memberships only allow letter mail, unless you purchase a package upgrade. Resident and Team memberships allow you to receive packages.

Events/Special Requests

Can I book a corporate or private event at Den 1880?

Den 1880 has space allocated for events. Submit an inquiry through our contact form and a Community Manager will reach out to you.

How much does it cost to book an event at Den 1880?

Pricing for private events is location and event specific. Submit an inquiry through our contact form and a Community Manager will reach out to you.

Are member events complimentary?

Most member events are complementary unless they are ticketed. If the event is ticketed members receive priority booking.

Can I use the space to photograph or shoot film?

You need to confirm with your Community Manager before any photography or filming in the space. Depending on the size and nature of the shoots, a fee may be associated. Failure to notify the Community Manager may result in a suspension or termination of your membership.

Security

Does Den 1880 have an emergency call centre?

If you require emergency assistance or want to report a crime in progress, call 9-1-1. An emergency is any situation where people or property are at risk, including but not limited to fires, crimes in progress, or medical emergencies. For an emergency where people or property are not at immediate risk, contact a member of our team. 

Workplace safety at Den 1880

We want all of our members and guests to safely enjoy the activities and facilities available at Den 1880. Observe any signs published or displayed at our space at any time and take reasonable precautions when travelling around the space or using the facilities. If a member or guest has an accident or suffers any injury at or in the vicinity of Den 1880, report it to a staff member as soon as possible and, in any event, within 24 hours of the incident. As well as wanting to check on a member or guest’s well-being, this information is needed for us to comply with health and safety obligations and for insurance purposes.
